For many years
I've felt like seeing this band again - the first Danish rock band that I became
a fan of, after having seen them playing live on stage for the first time in December
1968, prior to the release of their debut album, M144, in 1969. At
the bottom of this page my first live photos of Burnin Red Ivanhoe
from 5. August 1971 can be viewed. So 37 years after my first Burning Red
concert I took the opportinity to make another photo series of this excellent
band. The evening started out by Karsten Vogel and Kim Menzer
playing their brass instruments while walking among the audience before joining
the rest of the band on stage. We got most of the classical Burning Red songs
that we loved, but also some of the more jazz/rock fusion struff included at all
their albums. It's quite understandable that the musicians can't stand to play
a museeum-performance of only the greatest-hits-material, but anyway I missed
favorites like Kaj, Purple Hearts and Læg
dig kun ned, but we still got a wonderful Ivanhoe i Brøndbyerne,
a beautiful Wallifanten, I Want The Rest of My Life Surronded
With Money, Medardus, Lack of Light and a
nice song new to me, Mean Old Men. Like when I saw Alrune
Rod in 2002 it's nice to see these old men playing with such an energy
and freshness after almost 40 years on the road. (Thanks
to Ole Fick for sending me the set list)
