Together
with three more guest artists, Freya performed
a rare solo concert, backed by Rosie's Rat Pack to
celebrate the 11th Anniversary of nightclub Rosie McGee's
at Vesterbrogade in Copenhagen. The other artists were Martin
Preisler, Christian and Ida Corr.
(You can soon see photos of these artists' performing on www.eric-photo.dk).
It was Freya's first performance (if we exclude
the Iraq-concert, see below), after the Sparkler
split, and we got three Sparkler-songs and two
cover versions: She sang I See Stars /
You Belong To Me / First Cut Is The Deepest
/ Baby Can I Hold You / Tiger.
It was nice hear Freya backed by some other
musicians than usual and she confirmed (what I have stated
many times before), that Freya is the
artist, and her unique sound is coming from her alone. She
can be backed by any musicians, and she will always be the
Freya, we know and love, due to her talent,
her charisma, her beauty, her kindness.
But it was very refreshing to listen to a different backing.
Everything was rather improvised, as Freya only
rehearsed the set with the band for one hour the day before,
and the final set list was written less than three hours prior
to the concert start.
Freya started with I See Stars,
which was slightly more laid-back, compared to the Sparkler
versions. And the song also differed by the use of
saxophone and keyboards. I was reminded of the 1999 concerts,
where Sascha Dupont was in the band as keybord-player,
and I hope that Freya will include the keyboard
in the concerts as a solo artist to come. You Belong
To Me also improved very much by the keyboard accompagnement.
The two cover songs by Cat Stevens and Tracy
Chapman were nice to hear, but Freya's
own material were far the most interesting. Anyway she gave
a very heartfelt version of Tracy Chapman's
Baby Can I Hold You. I admit that I missed Kåre's
drumming, and Rune's rough guitar riffs on Tiger,
but anyway I injoyed to hear a different backing.
I was pleased to see Freya in a very happy condition
after starting to date with Boogie-Mikkel. The
two of them seem to be very happy together, and Freya
radiated that feeling of being in love, by constantly smiling
and not moving too far away from Mikkel. In
spite of that, I had a nice conversation with the lovely Freya
after the band had stopped with its final guest artist, Christian.
You can see the cute couple at the buttom of this side.
