Maria Montell
was pregnant with har son, Villum (born in September 2004), when
she recorded her new album, Bossa For My Baby. So she didn't feel
fit for at cover shot at that time. That's the story behind how I was involved
in the making of the cover art for this first release on Maria's
new record label, Bossa
For My Baby. She contacted me for the permission to use one of the pics
from the photo series I made when she performed at Portalen
on 20. November 2003. And that's also the reason why I was invited to the
Release Party at Café Luuk in Copenhagen. Maria
and her backing band gave a five song performance in the back of the café,
two of them being her own writings.
Now, jazz and bossa nova in unknown aria for me, so I'm not the
person to make any reviews on Maria's new album. But it is obvious
that the charm of Maria adds a lot to the positive experience to
listen to her new music style. The mood on the album is very relaxed and you become
happy when you listen to the album. I must admit that I would have been happier,
if the Didadi-song had been omitted. I guess that
it is meant for the international market, but except for that song, the album
is very nice and soft and the positive and optimistic mind of Maria's
and her nice vocals makes you feel like playing the album, even if you're normally
more familiar with the rock/pop-scene.
After the performance I made a portrait
series of Maria and her husbond, film-maker Tomas Villum Jensen,
which can be viewd at the bottom of this page. Three days prior to Maria's
Release Party, Tomas had the Galla Premiere of his most recent movie,
Solkongen.
In fact there would have been no Release Party,
had it not been for DJ Katrine Ring, who requested Maria
to make the event. Katrine performed as a DJ after Maria's
breif concert and I made some portraits of her, which can be seen at the bottom,
as well.
