I've heard this
band in three different versions now: As a full
band of five musicians, as an acoustic
duo and finally this night as a semi-acoustic
trio. The trio version this Friday night wasn't voluntarily selected
by the band members, but was caused by the heavy snowfall earlier that day, which
closed the Storebælt Bridge. So the bassplayer, Anders Larsen,
and the drummer, Thomas Holl, were stuck on the wrong side of the
bridge! This, of course, created quite a lot of nervousness to the three of them,
who were able to come. This concert was ment to be a showcase for a couple of
people from the record industry, but due to the weater situation they didn't appear
either. This was considered a release for the band, as they want to be branded
as a rock band, and not an acoustic trio.
To be quite honest I didn't
miss the bass and the drums! lisa vegas did a splended job, improvising
the new arrangements of their melancholic songs. The absense of the bass and drums
pulled the keyboards much more foreward in the sound, which was quite suitable
for the kind of songs that Lisa writes. If it wasn't for Steffen's
rough guitar riffs
the mood of the songs might be a little too quiet and even sad. But the guitar
keeps the balance, so the songs become ecxiting in live versions, too. To hear
them in studio versions you should buy the debut ep, "Time Stopped
For 50 Seconds And Then ...", (indeed to be recommended), which was
released on 5. November 2005. Only thing I missed was one or two up-tempo
songs to make the balance complete. The full band lisa vegas has
a couple of up-tempo songs on the set list, but this evening they were omitted
because of the reduced band.
